Starting Gate - automatic

Releasing rider's wheel at start signal
Enquire
The STARTING GATE has been designed and developed by SWISS TIMING in collaboration with the UCI (International Cycling Union). The system is used by SWISS TIMING, and is homologated by the UCI for national and international competitions.

It is used on all cycling events using velodrome halls and on cycling tracks such as Individual and Team Pursuit, 500 meters Time Trial, 1Km Time Trial and Team Sprint.

The STARTING GATE may be used as a stand-alone training unit, where a push button manually triggers the opening and closing of the actuators. When used in a pair, it is linked to the TRACKER pursuit clocks with a dedicated controller, providing a fully automated start sequence, and a perfect synchronisation of the opening of both gates.

  • A V-shaped support at the level of the seat tube ensures the security and stability of the athlete.
  • On one side, two rubber bases keep the contact with the track floor when the gate is installed. The bases are complemented by two wheels, allowing for quick and easy removal from the racing track.
  • On the other side of the starting gate, the two feet are screw-adjustable, allowing on the starting gate on the starting gate to be levelled to suit the angle of any Velodrome tracks at the start line throughout the world.
  • The stability of the starting gate allows the athlete to await the start signal whilst seated on the cycle, allowing the athlete to concentrate on the race start.
  • Numerous quick release, adjustable devices allow the starting gate to be quickly adjusted to suit any type and size of bicycle.
  • Two pneumatic actuators grip the cycle's rear wheel with a pressure of 4.5 to 6 bars. The pneumatic energy is provided by a bottle of gaseous nitrogen at a pressure of 200 bars.
  • An adjustable pressure reducer provides the service pressure of 4.5 to 6 bars required for the actuators.
